POLK COUNTY, Ga. – As a part of the SPLOST revenue, Polk County, Georgia has used some of these funds to install new tornado sirens in the county.

Polk County is a part of Georgia’s “Tornado Alley” –  historically an area hit by strong storms and therefore a higher chance of tornados.

The new sirens were installed in multiple locations in 2022.

According to Polk County, two of the new sirens are in the Antioch and Jackson Chapel communities.

They are tied directly to the National Weather Service, and the sirens will sound when a tornado warning has been issued.
